Basics
Objectives
In this game, you play as the white player.
You begin with a chess game in progress.
Your opponent makes the first move.
The pieces have been moved in such a way that it’s possible for you to beat your opponent in a set number of moves.
To move a piece, select it and then choose a valid space to move it to.
The pieces all move according to standard chess rules.
If you make an incorrect move, the pieces revert to where they were before.
Keep moving until you get the right sequence of moves to beat the level.
Take all the time you need or use a suggestion if you’re stuck.
Finish the game within 300 seconds (5 minutes).
Winning versus losing.
A checkmate occurs when every move puts the king in check (i.e. in danger of being captured without moving).
Merely putting the king in check with a piece is not enough to win the game.
In some instances, a king can be put out of check merely by capturing the piece that cornered it.
The piece that puts the king in check might not always be the most obvious.
Choose the pieces carefully to set up a situation where the king is put in check..
In earlier levels, the pieces are set up in a way that all it takes to put the king in checkmate is by moving exactly one piece.
In later levels, it takes a few more moves to put the black player in check.
Some levels aren’t about putting the king in checkmate but render the game unwinnable for your opponent..
This situation can emerge if the black player has few pieces.
Even if the king is not in checkmate, your opponent may not be in a position to checkmate you in turn, effectively letting you win the match.
Suggestions
If you’re stumped, select the Suggestions button to get a hint on what move you should do.

You can only use the suggestions once per level.
Levels
This game has 100 levels which are unlocked sequentially.
You can go back and replay previously beat levels at any time.
Move count
Levels 1 through 19 can be completed in a single move.
Levels 20 through 62 require 2 moves.
Levels 63 through 99 provide 3 moves.
Level 100 gives you 4 moves.
Tips
Think two moves ahead.
Analyze every possible move of both the king and the pieces around it.
Check the placement of your pieces to see which pieces will support one that will trigger the checkmate.
The moves that will put the king in checkmate aren’t always obvious.
Sometimes, two pieces have equal chances to check, but only one can lead to a checkmate.
Choose the piece that won’t be attacked by the supporting pieces and can’t just be captured by the king without consequence.
Remember, in chess, it’s always the imperative of the player in check to immediately remove the king from check. In later levels, this is an important part of bringing a game to a mate.
This can help you direct your opponent to a set of moves that will end the game in your favor.
Some of the games are set up so that you might get you in check. Putting your opponent in check will keep them from acting on it.
