How to Play

Fill a 9 x 9 grid with the numbers 1 through 9. Numbers should appear only once in every column, row, and box.

• Starting the Game
  • On the welcome screen, select a difficulty level and grid size to begin.
    • Easy
    • Medium
    • Hard
    • Expert
    • Harder game modes have fewer givens, while easier game modes have more givens.
  • Select Help to read the game’s instructions.
  • Select Print Today’s Sudoku to create a hard copy of the day’s puzzle.
  • Change the game’s language through the drop-down list on the bottom left corner of the screen.

  • Desktop
    • With your mouse:
      • Left click on a cell to select it.
      • Left click on a number from the number pad to place in your “candidate” answer.
      • Left click on the same number twice to finalize your answer.
      • Left click on the number thrice to remove it.
    • With your keyboard
      • Once you’ve selected a cell, type in your answer.
      • Type in the answer twice to finalize it.
      • Use the backspace or delete keys to clear the cell.
  • Touchscreen devices
    • With your fingers:
      • Tap on the cell to select it.
      • Tap on the number from the number pad to place in your candidate answer.
      • Tap on the same number twice to finalize it.
      • Tap on it thrice to clear the cell.
  • Controls & indicators
    • The game’s indicators are located on the left side of the screen. From the top, these are as follows:
      • The game’s logo
      • The on-screen number pad
      • The present date
      • The timer
      • The first row of buttons, from left to right:
        • Pause button: Momentarily stops the game’s timer.
        • Reset button: Returns everything to the way it was when you began
        • Query button: Checks if your answers are correct.
      • The second row of buttons, from left to right:
        • Music button: Toggles the game’s music
        • Sound effects button: Toggles the game’s audio cues.
        • Enlarge button: Lets you switch between windowed and full screen modes
• Game Play
  • Generating puzzles
    • The game generates a different puzzle for every day of the year.
    • You can choose up to 365 to 366 different puzzles for each difficulty level.
    • You can play again by choosing the puzzle of a different day on the calendar or by selecting next on the winning screen.
  • Objectives
    • Your goal is to fill the entire 9 x 9 grid with the numbers 1 to 9.
    • No number should repeat in any row, column, or square.
      • You start the game with a few given numbers, which will act as clues for the location of the other numbers
      • The harder your difficulty level, the fewer numbers you start with.
  • Input
    • Select a cell to make it active. You can only place in answers in an active cell.
    • You can place in candidate (guess) answers before placing in your final answer.
      • Candidate numbers are small. You can have several of them at once.
      • As you eliminate guesses, you can remove candidate numbers until you have one left.
      • To remove candidates, clear the cell and add in the remaining candidate answers.
    • If you only have a single candidate left, select that same number again to make it your final answer

  • The game is suited for people of all ages who like logic puzzle games.
