How to Play

Aim your axes at the bullseyes and throw at the right time to hit the targets while avoiding other obstacles.

• Starting the Game
  • Press the wooden button at the bottom center of the game loading screen to bring up the welcome screen.
  • Press the wooden button in the bottom center of the welcome screen to bring up the level select screen.
    • Levels are unlocked sequentially.
    • Your web browser automatically saves your game progress.
  • The welcome screen has a sound control button in the upper right, a game developer information button in the lower left, and a more games button in the lower right.
  • To the left of the start button is a trash can for erasing your game progress.
  • To the right of the start button is a trophy for looking at unlocked game achievements.
• Game Controls
  • Desktop
    • Use your mouse left click button to select on the screen and then drag your cursor across the screen to set your shot strength and angle.
    • Release the left click button to throw your axe.
  • Touchscreen devices
    • Tap the screen with a finger and drag your finger across the screen to set your shot strength and angle.
    • Remove your finger when the time is right to throw your axe.
  • Controls & indicators
    • The upper left shows how many shots you have used thusfar in the current level.
    • Next to the shot count is a set of indicators showing how many throws you need to complete the stage in to earn various star ratings.
    • The upper right corner has 3 buttons for pausing the game, restarting the current level, and controlling game sound.
    • The lower left corner of the screen shows what level number you are on.
    • The level select screen shows which levels you have unlocked & the best star rating earned on each level you beat, along with your total star count.

  • Basics
    • This is an archery themed game where you help vikings break the targets by throwing axes at them.
      • You can hit a target anywhere to break it.
      • You can aim and time your shots so you break multiple targets with a single axe.
    • Early in the game you can shoot fairly straight shots to hit the targets.
      • As you progress through the game levels get more challenging by introducing the following features:
        • moving targets
        • fixed obstacles
        • moving obstacles
      • The above combine to require shots with precise timing and a high arc to hit the targets.
  • Levels
    • This game has 21 stages which are unlocked sequentially.
      • You can go back and replay previously beat levels at any time.
    • Winning vs losing
      • You beat a level by destroying all the targets on it.
      • You can’t actually lose levels, but you can earn a zero-star rating by taking too many axes to beat the level.
        • If you earn a low star rating you can replay the level as many times as you wish. Your new score will only replace the old score if you earn a higher score than you earned on prior plays.
        • This game offers unlimited continues, starting you at the beginning of the current level.
  • Tips
    • Star ratings
      • If you score fewer than 3 stars on a stage keep playing through the remaining levels & then come back to the levels you scored lower on to improve your ratings.
      • When replaying levels try to go for the hardest to hit targets first so that you can restart the level if you make an error.
        • If you have to hit more targets than you have axes to throw try to make the double target throw first.
      • In some cases with a 3-star hit limit of 2 you can knock out all the targets using only a single throw.
        • You can’t score higher than a 3-star rating.
    • Throw timing
      • Levels are not timed, so it does not hurt to watch multiple movement sequences before firing.
      • Some levels have moving targets and moving obstacles which are in sync with each other while others have movements that are not in sync.
        • If you are playing a level where objects move together you may need to use a high shot arc to arc over the obstacle.
        • If you are playing a level where objects fall in and out of sync it makes sense to throw just before they go out of sync and use limited arc on your shot.
      • Time your shots for where the target will be as your axe gets to it, and throw while moving obstacles are in your way so they will move out as your axe passes their locations.
        • The amount of lead time you must give depends upon how far something is away, how high it is, and how much arc you put on your toss.
    • Toss angle
      • In general it makes sense to minimize the amount of arc used if a straight shot will work.
      • Some throws require a high angle to get over an obstacle, or to hit a high target and then hit a lower target using the same axe.
• Target Audience
  • The game is suited for players who like target practice games.
    • Players throw an axe in this game, though it does not show any blood or gore, with the axes aiming at targets.
  • Other than the above, the game has no adult themed content.
