It is hard to believe that only 100 years ago most customers did not grab their own groceries.
This game brings us back to the days before Piggly Wiggly opened the first self-service grocery store, when customers didn’t touch the groceries. In this supermarket simulation game your job is to quickly give customers the groceries they seek and keep the mercado stocked with goods.
Determine what customers want by selecting them.
Have Ronnie Anne go grab their requested goods and deliver them.
Have Bobby clean up the store and stock the shelves.

How to Play
Select customers to see what groceries they want & try to deliver the goods as quick as possible while keeping the store inventory stocked.
Starting the Game
Click or tap anywhere on the game welcome screen to start the game.
The welcome screen contains a sound control button in the upper right corner.
Use the mouse left click button to do just about anything & everything:
click on a customer to collect their order
select Ronnie Anne to go get it
tell Ronnie Anne where to go and what to grab
tell Ronnie Anne to bring the food to the customer
discard any foods which were accidentally grabbed from the inventory at the top of the screen
have Bobby clean up the grocery store
Use your finger like a mouse.
The top of the screen shows your savings, which items you have grabbed, and allows you to select either Ronnie Anne or Bobby and suggest what they should do.
The game has a pause button in the upper right corner. Clicking on it reveals a menu with the following options: play game, help advice, sound control, and close.
Serve customers quickly to keep them happy.
Each customer has a status bar which shows their mood.
If 3 unhappy customers leave it is game over.
You can not bring a customer a partial delivery, you must deliver all the goods they request.
It generally makes sense to serve the customers at the top of the customer list first as they tend to have a lower initial satisfaction level & are more likely to walk out.
If you are dramatically behind and know you will not be able to serve all the customers in time it can makes sense to skip the first customer and quickly stock the store & start serving the second customer.
When you select a customer it shows what they want on their wish list and the associated foods move slightly on the shelf to help you find them.
You can hold up to 3 items at a time.
Your basket inventory is shown at the top of the screen.
If you accidentally add the wrong item to your basket you can click on the X near it to remove it.
You can only restock the store during waves.
In early levels customers may only come one or two at a time.
After you beat 3 or 4 levels there is a super sale and you have a fraction of a minute to restock almost the entire store before 3 customers come in the store at once.
If you are down to a single customer left and they are still quite happy you may want to wait a bit to finish the round while you restock goods.
Always use the checkout time of the last customer to restock – particularly the produce section.
You can fully restock goods even if they are only partially missing.
You score points based on what the customers buy and how happy they are when they check out.
You are awarded points at the end of each wave or round.
This is a fun and simple time management game for Casagrandes fans of all ages.
There are no adult themes in this game.
Grocery Store Stats & Trivia
Clarence Saunders opened Piggly Wiggly, the first self-serve grocery store to the public in Memphis, Tennessee on September 11, 1916.
He patented the idea of a self-serve store in 1917.
While self-serve led to a rise in theft loss the gains in efficiency allowed for lower prices and higher profits.
This new model also elevated the importance of brand recognition and product packaging.
Piggly Wiggly continued their innovations in the decades to come. They were the first grocery store to provide checkout stands & price mark every item in the store. In 1937 they were the first grocery store to offer customers shopping carts.
Clarence Saunders eventually lost control of the company after cornering the market in Piggly Wiggly shares to fight off a short. The Stock Exchange Governors removed the stock from the Board & his assets were turned over to the banks which financed his trade.
Modern grocery stores carry around 15,000 product SKUs compared to the 605 the original Piggly Wiggly carried.
Kroger is the largest supermarket company in the United States. It owns Piggly Wiggly along with other retail brands including Ralphs, Harris Teeter, Fry’s, Dillons, and Fred Meyer. In 2020 the company had 465,000 employees and $132.5 billion in revenues across 2,757 stores.
Walmart had $559.15 billion in revenues in 2020 across 10,526 stores. $369.9 billion, or 56.3%, of their sales were from groceries. Globally Walmart employs more than 2.3 million workers with nearly 1.6 million in the United States.
Amazon opened their first Amazon Go store to their employees on December 5, 2016. These stores allow customers to leave without requiring checking out. Sensors and cameras track what customers purchase and they are automatically billed. The first store was opened to the public on January 22, 2018.
