Much Ado About Recycling
Recycling centers rely on complex sorting machines to segregate the recyclable items effectively. Not every bit of garbage can be recycled this way, however. For these items, it’s usually better to dispose of them by other means.
Many kinds of plastics cannot be recycled (not in the usual way, anyway). Most of the time they end up clogging the sorting machines. These should be disposed of properly elsewhere.
The apple core, paper cup, and banana peel are instead biodegradable. These should be allowed to decompose and turn into fertilizer. You can place biodegradable waste in their own containers or place them in a compost heap.
Batteries and other items contain toxic chemicals. They should be disposed of properly to minimize the pollution they might cause.
Specific kinds of dishware such as ceramics cannot be recycled, either. This page outlines a few ways you can properly dispose of them.
