How to Play

Paint the grid above the beetle’s wing cases to match the pattern shown above it.

• Starting the Game
  • At the center of the welcome screen, select the play button to begin.
  • On the bottom right corner of the welcome screen are the following controls:
    • Select the information button to view the image rights of the beetle images shown.
    • Select the speaker button to turn the game’s sound effects on or off.
    • Select the music button to turn the game’s music on or off.
  • Select a beetle’s image on the level selection screen to start a level.
  • Your web browser automatically saves your game progress.

  • Desktop
    • With your mouse, left click to select.
  • Touchscreen devices
    • Tap on the screen with your fingers to select.
  • Controls and indicators (left to right)
    • Top row:
      • Back button: Quits the game and returns you to the welcome screen.
      • Level number
      • Reset button: Restarts the level with a clean slate
    • Bottom row
      • Beetle name and description
      • Play area
      • Beetle image: Shows you what the real beetle looks like in real life
• Game Play
  • Basic rules
    • You start with an empty beetle with a grid where its wing case would be.
    • Using the buttons, copy the pattern of color shown on the grid above the beetle.
      • Select the button to cover an entire row or column with color.
      • Buttons on the left cover rows while buttons below cover columns.
      • Select each of the buttons in the proper order to replicate the pattern exactly.
    • The patterns are inspired by but are not necessarily similar to the color of the beetles shown on the image on the bottom right corner.
    • The game automatically loads the next level once you finish.
    • If you find yourself unable to replicate a specific pattern, select the reset button to try again.
  • Levels
    • Levels are unlocked sequentially. There are 70 levels in this game.
    • You can replay any of the levels you’ve already unlocked.
  • Tips
    • Pay attention to the location of the color buttons. These will help you chart out your moves.
    • Try to start by painting in the color with the smallest number of squares.
    • Be prepared to layer the colors more than once to get the pattern right.
