How to Play

Perform a properly executed dive off a cliff. Plunge into the water as straight as you possibly can to earn the highest rating.

• Starting the Game
  • Click or tap on the large button labeled start to run the application.
  • Click or tap on the play button on the bottom of the welcome screen to begin.
  • On the level selection screen, click on the level you want to play.
    • The first level begins with a tutorial slideshow.
  • Toggle the game’s audio via the sound button on the upper right corner of the screen.
  • Your progress and high score is automatically saved onto your browser.
• Game Controls
  • Desktop
    • Left or right click at the proper moments to guide the diver’s form.
  • Mobile
    • Use your fingers as a mouse.
• Game Play
  • Levels
    • You start off with only Level 1 unlocked.
    • To unlock the other levels, you must finish all the dives of each level.
    • Each level number corresponds to the number of consecutive successful dives you must make.
  • Proper Form
    • Keeping proper form is the key to a successful dive.
    • To achieve good form, you must click or tap at the right moments to perform every step of a dive.
      • Click and hold to prepare for a jump, then release to jump. Release when you are at the apex of your forward lean on the rock. If you do not jump out far enough you can hit the rocks.
      • Click or tap and hold to flip.
      • Release at the appropriate moment to dive with your head facing down and your arms outstretched below your head.
    • To clear a level, you must make sure all your dives follow proper form.
      • As you dive from higher levels you can have a tendency to overshoot the landing with extra rotation, so try not to begin the second part of your dive until you have fallen part way down the screen.
      • If any of your dives have a bad landing it is game over.
  • Scoring and star ratings
    • A proper dive is rated according how straight you plunge into the water.
    • The three ratings are as follows
      • Poor: You dive into the water at a low angle.
      • Great: You dive into the water at a wide angle closer to the vertical
      • Perfect: You dive into the water at a straight or near-straight angle.
    • You receive the most points from a perfect dive.
    • Making great and perfect dives is the key to getting a three-star rating from a level.
      • If one of your dives is rated poor, you will receive at two-star rating for that level.
      • You can still clear a level by making poor, if properly executed dives.
  • Improper form
    • An improper dive means you must start the whole level all over again.
      • Improper dives consist of pratfalls, bad landings, and dives that miss a step.
      • Past Level 1, this means you must start from the bottom all over again.
      • Pratfalls
        • Click at the wrong time and you will likely hit yourself on the way down.
        • Often, this results in your character falling backwards.
      • No flips
        • For your dive to count, it must include a flip.
      • Bad landings
        • A bad landing is a dive that is out of form.
        • In this game, it involves each time you fall on a near-horizontal angle.
        • This can happen either when you land on your back or your belly.
  • Strategy and tips
    • Watch the angles.
      • Jump when your diver is leaning away from the cliff wall.
      • Flip at the right moment to ensure a proper dive.
        • Wait too long and you will likely land on your back
        • Release too soon and you will belly flop.
