3D Tangram Pattern Puzzle Game Play Instructions
How to Play
Click on the geometric puzzle shapes and move them into position to complete the puzzles. Pieces will snap into position when they are placed correctly.
- Starting the Game
- Click on the ‘new game’ button. This will bring up the game controls instructions. Click in the upper right corner of that screen to start the first level, which is a chicken.
- If you want to play a level other than the chicken you may select other levels using the hamburger menu at the lower left corner of the game.
- Game Controls
- Click on a piece and drag it to move it around the screen.
- Repeatedly click on and release a piece to rotate it.
- At the top of the screen there is a timer with a button to pause or restart time, a reshuffle pieces button, and a solve button.
- At the bottom of the screen there are buttons for level select, play instructions, return to game home, and turn sound on or off.
- When you have completed a level click on the purple arrow button at the bottom of a screen to play the next level.
- Tangram Animals
- Our puzzle game contains dozens of fun stages which you can play sequentially or select from the hamburger menu at the bottom left of the game.
- Puzzles include: chicken, cat, boat, rocket, horse, duck, house, rabbit, fish, swan, tree, dog, heart, bear, mouse, mountain, airplane, kangaroo, helicopter, turtle, runner, person holding an umbrella, camel, butterfly and dragon.
- Strategy
- This game is set on a flat 2-dimensional plane which you can move slightly left to right to give the game a 3 dimensional feel. When the puzzle is complete it spins around in a three dimensional pattern.
- Levels are timed, but there is no time limit. If you are frustrated by a lever there is a solve button at the top of the game.
- Correct placement
- If you are struggling to place a piece look for a shape which has an obvious location to start with and then build out from there. Since there is one square and one parallelogram in each puzzle, often one or the other of those is a good starting point.
- When pieces are in the correct location they snap into position and you can’t move them.
- This means if a piece is moveable then it is not set in the correct placement.
What is a Tangram?
Tangrams are dissection puzzles where 7 geometric shaped pieces (triangles, square and parallelograms) are cut from a square. These puzzle pieces are called tans and a wooden version of this puzzle was originally invented in China around 200 years ago.
Using the same 7 pieces a person can make hundreds of unique and representative shapes associated with animals and objects in the world.
Famed puzzle maker Samuel Lloyd wrote a book titled The Eighth Book of Tan in 1908. The whimsical book claimed the puzzle format was 4,000 years old.

This game resembles its real-world version better than the other tangram game in the site. You must make a specific figure out of the given shapes. Pick and choose one of fifteen different puzzles from the hamburger-shaped menu. Click and drag the pieces to move them into position. Click and release to rotate them.
While this version of tangrams isn’t as repetitive as other puzzle games, there isn’t a lot of variety to it. The 3-D effects also add a touch of pizzazz to this game. In sum, the game is a simple yet stimulating take on the classic. It is, however, a beginner-friendly gateway to the basics of tangram puzzles.
