• Starting the Game

    • Select the music button on the top left corner to turn the game’s sounds on or off.
  • This game is narrated. If you are a new learner, we recommend leaving the sounds on in this game.

    • With your mouse, left click and drag to draw the letters.
  • Touchscreen devices
    • Tap on the screen and draw with your fingers.
  • Controls and indicators
    • Top left corner:
      • Speaker button: Pronounces the letter shown onscreen
    • Right edge (top-down):
      • Home button: Quits the game and returns you to the welcome screen
      • Speaker button: Turns the game’s sounds on and off
      • Reset button: Clears what you’ve drawn from the screen
      • Back button: Returns you to the previous letter
      • Forward button: Opens the next letter

  • With your mouse or fingers, draw along the dotted lines to create the letter shown.
    • Each time you start a new letter, the game sounds out its name.
    • You can repeat the letter’s pronunciation by selecting the speaker button on the top left corner.
  • When you’re done, hit either of the arrows on the bottom right corner to move on to another letter.
  • Keep playing as long as you want.

A Few Fun Facts About Arabic

The Arabic alphabet emerged in the 500s AD in what is now modern Syria and Jordan. This was used to write the Arabic language, which is also the holy language of Islam. Alongside Latin and Chinese, it is one of the most widespread writing systems on Earth.

• Arabic script is written from right to left, as opposed to left to right.
• Unlike the Latin alphabet used to write this article, Arabic has no upper or lower cases. Sometimes, Arabic letters are drawn bigger on the edges, but that depends on the writer.
• Arabic does not have symbols for vowel sounds. This kind of writing system is called a consonant alphabet or abjad.
• Thanks to the spread of the religion of Islam, the Arabic alphabet is also used to write other languages, including Urdu and Persian.
