This is a math puzzle game with a 4 by 4 grid where players slide tiles around trying to merge tiles to see how high of a value they can create.
Use the arrow keys on your keyboard or your touchscreen to slide tiles to cause them to merge.
A new “2” tile will appear on the opposing side of the board each time you slide tiles.
Keep sliding tiles to merge them until you can not move them anymore because the playing field is full.

How to Play
Use your touchscreen or keyboard arrows to slide the pieces around the screen to merge tiles.
Click start then the white arrow green button to start the game.
Use your keyboard or touch screen to merge tiles of the same value.
The game board is a 4 by 4 grid.
This game does not have fixed levels, but stores your high score in your local web browser.
If you have 3 of the same value in a row the first 2 tiles in the direction of movement will merge together.
Tile values double each time they are merged: 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048, etc.
Tiles only merge together when they are adjacent and you push the arrow keys in the direction needed to push them together.
When merging pieces try to think ahead to the next step and where a new piece will enter the field.
As you get pieces of higher values they become harder to merge because each merge consists of a process of building other pieces up to that value.
You can easily get to 128 simply by alternating vertical and horizontal keys (e.g. up then right, up then right OR down then left, down then left), though getting a higher score requires more strategy.
While the game is named 2048, some extreme puzzle whizz has built up to a tile value of 32,768.
The original version of this game was developed by Gabriele Cirulli on March 9, 2014 as an upgrade to Threes.
