How to Play

Move around each level making your way to the flag. Use warps as needed, open gates by dropping keys on buttons, and ensure you maintain a valid path to the level exit where the flag is located.

• Starting the Game
  • Press the play button in the center of the welcome screen to bring up the level select screen.
    • Levels are unlocked sequentially.
    • Your web browser automatically saves your game progress.
  • The welcome screen has a settings button in the lower right for adjusting game volume and sound effects, along with resetting game progress.
• Game Controls
  • Desktop
    • Movement
      • Move left by pressing the left arrow key.
      • Move right by pressing the right arrow key.
      • Move up by pressing the up arrow key.
      • Move down by pressing the down arrow key.
    • Dropping keys
      • While standing over a button press shift and a direction arrow key to drop a button.
    • Picking up keys
      • While standing over a button that has a key laid on it press shift and the direction which was laid to pick it back up.
    • Other functions
      • Press the R key to restart the current level.
      • Press the P key to pause the game. When the game is paused it reveals a menu with level restart, a link to the level select screen, sound control, resume play, and skip level.
  • Touchscreen devices
    • Use the on-screen controls.
      • The movement direction pad is in the lower right corner of the screen.
      • Press the yellow direction buttons on the left side of the screen to drop a key on a button or to pick up a key.
  • Controls & indicators
    • The left side of the screen shows which keys you have left to lay.
    • Any button that is pressed shows which key is laid on it.
    • As you lay keys on buttons you can observe what else changes on the level.
    • The level select screen shows which levels have been completed in blue.
• Game Play
  • Basics
    • This is a simple level escape game where your goal is to make it to a flagpole with a flag on it.
    • Along the stages there are many buttons which you can lay keyboard keys on to keep them pressed, which can open gates or make the flag appear on the flagpole.
    • Some stages also have warp squares on them, which enable you to move across the stage from one location to another without touching the squares in between.
  • Features
    • Warps – some levels have warps on them.
      • Warps can be used an unlimited number of times in both directions.
      • Warps are a way to move in a direction you otherwise would not be able to due to a wall blocking your way or your key for that direction being laid on a button.
      • Some stages have both gray and red warps on them. Tiles work with the other tile of the same color.
    • Gates – Some levels have gates blocking your path.
      • Gates can be opened by laying direction keys on buttons.
      • Some buttons need to remain in place to keep the gates open, while other gates only need to be opened temporarily and can then be closed.
    • Buttons – Buttons allow you to alter other aspects of levels including opening gates and making the flag appear.
      • Some functions need to remain active throughout the entirety of the level, while others can have the keys grabbed back after you accessed a portion of the room.
      • Some functions require multiple buttons to be activated at the same time. Some flags only show if 2 or 3 buttons are pressed.
    • Flags – flags are where you end the level.
      • Some flags show all the time by default.
      • Some only show on the flagpole when a specific button is pressed.
      • Some show when 2 or 3 buttons are pressed.
  • Levels
    • This game has 30 stages which are unlocked sequentially.
      • You can go back and replay previously beat levels at any time.
    • Winning vs losing
      • You beat a stage by making it to the flagpole.
      • You lose a stage if your button presses are in the wrong order or you lay the wrong keys and you get stuck.
        • If you get stuck press the R key to restart the level.
        • This game offers unlimited continues starting out at the beginning of the failed level.
  • Tips
    • Furthest out
      • In many cases the best way to start stages with many options is to consider which button is the furthest away from the other buttons & flags in a direction you will not need to travel again & place a key on that button first, with the key pointing toward an edge of the level.
    • Temporary lays
      • Some spots you will need to revisit & pick up the keys you laid on buttons.
      • If there are more buttons than spots, or if it seems like the route is impossible consider which spots you can revisit to pick up a key from & lay down a direction there that you’ll only need to use after the revisit.
    • Consider warps
      • If you have to get a direction that you can’t because the key is already used you may be able to use a warp to move you further along that direction and then come back.
      • When you warp if you move slowly you will exit the warp on the warp square itself, enabling you to move in any direction from it.
        • Be careful not to tap too quickly going into a warp or you may exit the other side on the next square over, which often makes the level impossible to beat without resetting it.
