    - A free stone is one that does not have any stones on top of it and at least one side (left or right) is free of adjacent stones.
    - In this game open stones have a lighter background color, whereas stones that are not free have a darker grayed out background color.
  - Autoshuffle
    - When no valid open pairs remain the game automatically shuffles the remaining stones.
    - This means at least one match is available at all times.
    - Automated shuffles do not cost you points.
- Levels
  - This game has 105 levels which are unlocked sequentially.
    - You can go back and replay previously beat levels to try to earn a higher score on them.
    - Your new score will only replace the old score if you score more points.
  - Stones
    - The first stage contains 16 stones, or 8 stone pairs.
    - Later levels contain more stones.
  - Level timers
    - The first stage gives you 1:03 to complete it.

  - As you play, you build castles on top of the level icons.
    - Like in history, castles in the lower levels of the game don’t resemble castles as most people know them today. See the section below for details.
    - You can’t replay a level once a castle is built on it.
- Basic rules
  - Select pairs of identical stones to remove them from the stack.
  - Only free stones can be paired.
    - Free stones have no stone above them and at least one side (left or right) without an adjacent stone.
    - The game helpfully highlights the free stones. Free stones are much brighter. Non-free stones are grayed out.
  - As you remove stones, you gain construction materials:
  - There are 3 types of construction materials (wood, stone, and brick).
    - Each level has a quota for all 3 materials. Use these to build your castle.
    - For every pair of stones you remove, you gain 2 types of construction equipment.
    - Some stones have a material on them. When cleared, they produce only this material.
    - Meet the level’s quota of materials to clear the level.
  - Clear the entire stack before the timer runs out to finish the sublevel.
    - Finishing the level will allow you to build a castle in the spot.
    - Keep playing until you meet the level’s quota.
    - Failing to clear the stack in time, or failing to meet the level’s quota after 5 sublevels, and it’s game over:
      - You have the option of trying the level again.
      - You can also end your playthrough there. This will allow you to save your score to the leaderboard.
- Assistance
  - The game provides you with unlimited hints and shuffles.
    - Selecting the hint button will show you any valid pair of tiles.
    - Shuffles rearrange the stones on the stack.
      - This is useful if you want to make more obvious pairs.
      - If you run out of valid pairs, the game shuffles the stack automatically.
  - However, hints and manual shuffles cost points. Use them sparingly.
    - Hints cost 300 points.
    - Manual shuffles cost 500 points. Automatic shuffles are free.
    - Using hints also reduces the number of materials you gain from the pair you remove.
- Scoring
  - Points
    - You earn points by clearing tiles from the level.
      - Every pair of tiles you clear adds 100 points to your level score.
      - You also gain a bonus 100 points for every second left on the timer.
    - You can choose to save it when you meet the following conditions:
      - You have played through all 10 levels.
      - You choose to end the playthrough.
  - Star ratings
    - Your star rating depends on how fast you finish you finish the level.
      - The fewer levels it takes to build a castle, the higher your star rating.
      - To earn a 3-star rating, it should take you no less than 2 sub-levels to finish the level’s quota.
    - Earning a 3-star rating gets progressively difficult in the upper levels.

How to Play

Match open stones repeatedly until the boards are clear of tiles. Beat the clock and play through 10 challenging stages.

Starting the Game
- Select the Play button on the game’s welcome screen to begin play, or select from 52 different layout designs by selecting the Level Select button.
- Near the above buttons are buttons to read gameplay help advice, view your high scores, and play other games on our site.
- The welcome screen has a language select dropdown in the lower left corner.
- The lower right corner of the welcome screen has buttons for social sharing and game developer information.

- Desktop
  - Select an open tile with your mouse left click button & then select an identical matching open tile to remove both from the game.
- Touchscreen devices
  - Select an open tile on the screen by tapping it with a finger & then select an identical matching open tile to remove both from the game.
- Controls & indicators
  - The right rail has most of the game’s controls.
    - At the top there are 3 buttons to shuffle tiles, undo moves & request hints. Each of those can be used 3 times each.
    - Next the game shows your score, what level number you are on, and how much time you have remaining.
    - At the bottom there are 4 buttons to pause or play, control game music & game sounds, and to switch to full screen mode.
Game Play
- Open stones
  - A stone (or tile) is considered open if there is no tile directly on top of it & at least one of its left or right sides is open.
    - Only open tiles can be matched.
    - Tiles which are open have a brighter background color & tiles which are not open have more of a grayish background color.
  - When no matches remain the tiles are automatically shuffled.
    - The automated shuffling does not cost you a shuffle.
    - Conversely, this means that if the tiles have not shuffled you know there is at least 1 open match remaining.
  - If you chose the wrong tile then selecting any other non-matching tile will deselect the prior tile.
  - Some tiles from taller stacks can obscure part of tiles on shorter stacks. If you can’t find a match it might be because part of the tile is obfuscated.
    - Generally it is best to go for the widest rows and tallest columns first to open up the playing field, but the unlimited free shuffles makes that less important in this game.
- Levels
  - There are 52 different board layouts you can choose to play, but when you play through a game you play through 10 levels.
    - You are given 5 minutes to complete each level.
    - If you use hints, undo, or shuffles on a level then your counts are restored to 3 for the next level.
  - You beat a level by removing all tiles from the playing field.
    - If there are multiple tiles remaining in a stack & no other tiles remain on the level then the level is also complete as shuffling can not display an open pair if the only remaining tiles are on top of each other.
  - If you fail to beat a level before the timer runs out you can choose to end your game or try again.
- Scoring
  - Each tile match you make is worth 100 points.
  - Your remaining time when a level is complete is worth 30 points per second.
  - Your game score is cumulative across levels.

  - Tile matches must be identical with the exception of seasonal tiles & flower tiles.
    - A flower tile can be matched with any flower tile & a season tile can be matched with any season tile.
- Scoring
  - Scores are cumulative across levels. Your remaining time from the first level is applied to the second level & you play until you run out of time.
  - Matches are worth 95 points each.
  - Using a hint costs 100 points.
  - Shuffling tiles costs 500 points.
  - If there are no matches remaining tiles will automatically shuffle without costing you any points. If the tiles do not shuffle it means there are still some matches available.

    - Levels are unlocked sequentially:
      - Finish one level to unlock the next.
      - You automatically proceed with the next level.
      - There are 10 levels in this game.

      - Your starting arrangement will be different each time.
    - Clear the entire stack before the level’s timer expires.
      - In level mode start with 2 minutes and 3 seconds on the clock on the first level.
        Later levels have a longer time limit and more stones.
      - You fail the level if you don’t clear all the stones in time.
        You can opt to try the level again.
        Otherwise, you can end your playthrough. This lets you save your score in the leaderboard.
    - Each time you reload the game, you have the following options:
      - You can continue where you last left off.
      - You can start a new playthrough. This will clear your previous score and progress.
  - Time trial
    - Choose a level from the level selection screen to start time trial mode.
      - Here, you only need to clear the entire stack to finish the game.
    - Your goal is to finish the level as fast as you can. The faster you finish, the higher your star rating.
      - The timer counts up rather than down.
      - The highest star rating you can get is 3 stars.
      - Your web browser saves your best time and star rating.
        Your record is shown below the level’s icon on the selection screen.
        Your star rating for the level is shown on top of its icon.
      - Although you earn points in this level, it doesn’t count toward your record on the level.
    - There are 100 levels to play.
- Scoring
  - Your score in Levels mode is cumulative. Your score carries over from one level to the next.
  - You earn 100 points for every pair you clear.
  - In addition, you get a bonus 30 points for every second left on the timer after you finish.
