      - For the first 12 levels you have 4 or 5 customers on each level.
      - Starting on level 13 you can have 6 customers on a level.
      - Starting on level 17 you have 7 customers you must serve to complete a level.
    - Each time you finish a level, you make progress toward unlocking a new ingredient for your burgers. This is based on how much money you’ve earned in the level.

    - You start off with meat and buns unlocked.
    - Next you unlock lettuce, then tomato, then cheese.
    - Each additional unlock requires a greater than linear increase in earnings.

    - The arrows do not appear elsewhere in the game.
  - All the cakes in this game are assembled in stages.

    - Make them wait too long and they will leave angrily. You will not get paid even if you do give them the cake.
  - If you don’t get everything exactly right you will also not get paid.
- Scoring
  - The score you receive from each cake depends on its size and how fast you serve it.
  - Taller cakes command higher prices than short ones.
- Tips
  - It’s more important to get the cake right than to do it fast.
    - Don’t be afraid to double check before finishing a step. Just do it fast.
    - A frustrated customer will still pay for an accurate cake that’s running a bit late. They will not pay for a wrong one.
    - That said, be sure to get the cake to them before they lose their patience.
  - Pay close attention to the details and color of the individual ingredients. Some of them can look deceptively similar.

Starting the Game

  - On the first day it will run you through a tutorial on the goal of the game (making profits in 14 days), buying inventory, setting your recipe, and pricing.
- Your web browser automatically stores your high score.
Game Controls
- Desktop
  - The game’s layout in prep mode changes based on which side of the screen your mouse is on.
    - If you scroll over recipe it will enable you to change your recipe. Click on the slider and drag it to adjust the amount used of any ingredient.
    - If you scroll over ingredients that will enable you to buy ingredients. Click on the quantity you want to buy for each cups, coffee, milk and sugar.
    - Your potential serving quantity and the limiting factor is shown in the lower left corner. As you buy ingredients or adjust your recipe it will change what your limiting factor of production is.
    - Your remaining budget is shown in the upper left corner.
  - If you make a purchase by mistake there is an Undo Purchase button in the lower left corner.
  - You can also set your pricing near the bottom of the screen. As a general rule of thumb around $1.40 per cup is ok if it is cool to warm and you can go to $2 or more if it is freezing.
  - Once the day begins you can see how customers respond and how your sales are pacing to determine if it makes sense to move the cup price slider in the upper left corner.

Gameplay Strategy
- Time
  - The game lasts a total of 14 days.
  - The money you earn from one day (as well as any remaining savings you have going into that day) is your budget starting the next day. You are not required to spend all your budget and can save as much of it as you like.
  - The day starts at 7 am.
  - If you do not have robust sales by 11 am it probably makes sense to lower prices.
  - The day ends at 7 pm, though few customers come by after 5. At the end of the day it tells you tomorrow’s weather forecast.
- Daily approach
  - At the end of each day it gives you a forecast for tomorrow’s weather.
  - On cold days people are willing to pay more for a hot cup of joe, so if it is freezing you can charge them more.
  - This in turn, also means it makes sense to be more aggressive with buying perishable supplies in bulk on cold days & less aggressive on warm or hot days.
  - Some of your ingredients like milk go bad daily while sugar or coffee often also go bad at the end of the day, so try not to carry much more than you think you will sell & lower your prices around 2 pm if you think you are going to have a lot of ingredients go bad.
  - A mental model for how this game is designed is you are lucky to break even on days when it is hot out and can make large profits on days when it is freezing.
  - You get zero credit for retained inventory on day 14 so try to buy the right amount of ingredients to last the day & put on a fire sale late in the day if it looks like you will have leftovers.
- Cost of Ingredients
  - Each ingredient you purchase for your coffee has a purchase price which declines per unit as your purchase volume increases.
  - Cups are available in packs of 10, 25 and 50 at a price of $2, $4, and $6.
    - The unit cost drops from 20 cents to 16 cents to 12 cents as your purchase volume increases.
    - The cost savings buying in bulk is 20% to 40% and they never go bad.
  - Coffee is available in packs of 20, 40 or 60 tsp at a price of $10, $14, and $18.
    - The unit cost drops from 50 cents a tablespoon to 35 cents and then 30 cents.
    - The cost savings buying in bulk is 30% to 40%.
  - Milk is available for purchase in 10, 20 or 40 cup volumes at a price of $1, $1.8 and $2.
    - The unit cost drops from 10 cents to 9 cents to 5 cents.
    - The cost savings buying in bulk is 10% to 50%.
    - Given the relative pricing between 20 cups and 40 cups it almost always makes sense to buy 40 cups at a time & then adjust your recipe to make it a bit creamier if you would otherwise have milk left over at the end of the day.
  - Sugar is available in packs of 10, 20 or 50 tsp at a price of $3, $5 and $8.
    - The unit cost drops from 30 cents to 25 cents to 16 cents.
    - Given the cost savings buying in bulk & that mice only rarely attack it is typically worth buying sugar in packs of 50 if you can afford to.
- Cup formula
  - Each cup is a cup which can cost as little as 12 cents, but every other ingredient has a range you can adjust for how much is used. All cost information shown presumes ingredients were bought in bulk.
  - Coffee: 1 to 4 tsp, which costs 30 cents to $1.20 per cup.
  - Milk: 0.0 cups to 2 cups, which costs 0 to 10 cents per cup.
  - Sugar: 0 to 4 tsp, which costs 0 to 64 cents per cup.
- Total cup cost
  - Presuming you buy in bulk and make the most expensive cup possible it would cost you $2.08 per cup.
  - If you had all ingredients in the middle it would cost $1.24 per cup.
  - Given how cheap milk is I like to go full on the milk meter.
  - I tend to adjust the sugar formula on a day to day basis to try to have it and the milk just about run out by the end of the day
  - Given how expensive coffee is I tend to run that more toward the middle or low range.
- Perishable ingredients
  - Your cups rarely if ever go bad, making it make sense to buy in bulk when you can afford to.
  - Your milk goes bad about 100% of the time at the end of the day.
  - At the end of the day 30% of your remaining coffee frequently goes stale. On some days 100% can go stale.
  - Ants get in your sugar about once every third or fourth day. You can sometimes lose 70% of your sugar from ants.
- Customer feedback
  - When customers walk by they leave feedback bubbles.
  - A green border means good and red is bad.
    - If around half or more are red that means you are giving away most of the market and should lower prices.
    - If fewer than 1 in 6 are red that means you can likely raise prices.
  - Customer thought bubbles also include a picture in their thought bubble: the sun, a dollar sign, coffee, milk, or sugar.
  - Some customers also have a magnet in their thought bubble, indicating they will help attract other customers.
  - You can (and should!) adjust your cup pricing on the fly repeatedly throughout the day.
    - If you are running low on ingredients you can raise prices.
    - If you look like you have a lot of left over ingredients which may spoil you can lower prices to sell at break even or a slight loss rather than having that spoilage.
- Realistic or not?
  - This game does a good job teaching children about supply and demand curves, maintaining inventory, unit pricing, inventory spoilage & marketplace reputation.
  - Three things that are perhaps less than ideal about the game are what a big impact the weather has, recipe variation encouragement, not considering inventory in daily stats & lack of fixed business costs.
    - In real life we have ice and billions of dollars of iced coffees are sold every month, so weather has a much smaller impact on consumer demand than this game shows. However the variability of the weather helps teach kids about externalities and anticipating consumer demand shifts.
    - Many large businesses maintain a fairly stable recipe or customize each order to the particular consumer’s preference. The variability in day to day recipes here does not teach the value of continuity and setting stable consumer expectations as well as one might hope, but there needs to be some variability for the player to feel in control of the game.
    - Unless the first day is freezing you will likely lose money on it based on a straight profits and losses basis if you do not count the value of any inventory. By not counting the value of remaining inventory the game can make a decent first day sound bad even if a person nearly broke even on it while building inventory.
    - Every business has fixed and marginal business costs. This simulation only focuses on marginal costs, which is a way of under-estimating the roll of fixed costs like rent or debt servicing. It also does not have a marketing budget feature, which is a primary cost center for many new small businesses.

How to Play

Serve fries, burgers, and drinks in a food truck. Meet each level’s customer satisfaction quota to win.

Starting the Game
- Select Play on the bottom right corner of the welcome screen to begin.
- On the top right corner are the following buttons:
  - Select the music button to turn the game’s music on or off.
  - Select the speaker button to do likewise with the game’s sound effects.
- Your web browser automatically saves your game progress.

  - With your mouse, left click to select and navigate.
- Touchscreen devices
  - Tap on the screen with your fingers to select and navigate.
Game Play
- Levels
  - Levels are unlocked in sequence:
    - You start with only the first level unlocked. The first level serves as your tutorial.
    - Finish one level to unlock the next.
  - There are 50 levels in this game.
  - You can replay the levels you’ve already unlocked.
    - Replaying a level increases their difficulty.
    - Finish playing at least 3 times to earn the 3-star rating.
    - You can replay these levels more times to earn cash for upgrades.
  - Levels are separated in 5 pages on the levels selection screen.
    - Use the arrow buttons on the left and right side of the screen to navigate between them.
    - The levels appear in a meandering path.
    - The third to fifth level pages are grayed out.
- Basic rules
  - Cooking burgers
    - Select the bun bag to take out a hamburger bun.
    - Select the patties to plop one in the grill.
      - The timer will show how long it takes to cook the patty.
      - Once it’s done, take the patty out of the grill as soon as you can.
        
        Select the patty to move it to a bun. You must have a bun to place in the patty.
        
        Leave it too long (as indicated by another timer) and it will burn.
    - Place the other ingredients (cheese, lettuce, and tomato) onto the burger.
      - The ingredients are always clicked in order from bottom to top. Cheese first, then tomato, and then lettuce.
      - Make sure to match the customer’s demands.
    - Select the finished burger to serve.
  - Cooking fries
    - Select the bag of fries to place them into the fryer.
    - The fries will automatically be removed from the fryer.
    - Select the finished fries to serve.
  - Serving drinks
    - The drink fountain automatically dispenses a cup of soda.
    - Select the cup to serve it. A new one will be dispensed in its place.
  - Serving the customer
    - The customer will demand a specific order, which you must fulfill as quickly as you can.
      - Meet the order exactly to satisfy the customer. Customers will not take a burger that isn’t what they want.
      - Some customers will demand multiple items.
      - Your customers will be served on a first come, first served basis. The one exception is if you haven’t finished preparing what they wanted yet.
    - Customers will not wait forever.
      - If they are not satisfied in time, they will leave.
      - Fulfilling part of their order will bring their patience meter back up.
    - In later levels, multiple customers will order at once. You best be prepared for the rush.
    - Some levels have customers demand likes.
      - Customers only give likes if they receive their order before their patience expires halfway.
    - Finish the level before the timer runs out.
      - If you don’t meet the quota of customers before the timer runs out, you lose the level.
- Upgrades
  - Overview
    - As the game progresses, your starting facilities will not be enough to satisfy the needs of the customers.
    - Upgrades open up new slots, They are the key to serving several customers at once.
    - Use the money you’ve earned from each level to pay for upgrades.
  - Acquiring upgrades
    - Buy upgrades by selecting the upgrade button on the bottom right corner of the level selection screen.
    - You can upgrade the following features
      - Coke dispenser: lower the serving time from 7 seconds to 6 seconds, then 4 seconds.
      - Coke: increase your earnings per drink from 20 to 40, then 100.
      - Coke slot: add second and third serving slots for glasses.
      - Stove slot: enable a second burner to cook burgers at the same time.
      - Pan: decrease burger preparation time from 7 seconds, to 5 seconds, to 4 seconds.
      - Burger slot: adds a second or third spot for holding burgers.
      - Meat: Increase sales point per burger from 80 to 160, to 360.
      - Fryer Slot: increases server slot from 1 to 2, then 3.
      - Fries Slot: adds a second serving slot for the fries.
      - Fries: increases your points scored for fries from 30 to 60, to 120.
    - You can only upgrading cooking slots & fryer slots once. Each other feature can be upgraded twice.
    - Upgrading each feature starts at 720, then 1,125.
  - Breakfast cafe
    - The above upgrades are available immediately as soon as you can afford them. In addition you can upgrade parallel features for other menu items.
    - The second half of the game has you play a breakfast restaurant serving coffee along with toast and toppings.
    - Here are the features you can upgrade for the second half of the game.
      - Coffee dispenser: lower the serving time from 7 seconds to 6 seconds, then 4 seconds.
      - Coffee: increase your earnings per drink from 40 to 80, then 200.
      - Coffee slot: add second and third serving slots for mugs.
      - Toast slot: add a second, third, and fourth slot for holding cooked toast.
      - Toasting machine: lower the toasting time from 7 seconds to 5 seconds, then 4 seconds.
      - Toasting machine slots: upgrade your toaster to cook 2 or 3 pieces of toast at once.
      - Toast: increase your earnings per serving from 160 to 320, then 720.
      - Ingredients: increase your earnings for adding extra ingredients from 60 to 120, then 240.
- Power ups
  - Use power ups to improve your performance in the level.
  - Each power up has a different benefit.
    - Coin power up: Increase coin earnings by 20%
    - Time power up: Cook food 50% faster
    - Frying pan power up: Avoid burning the burgers
    - Clock power up: Adds 15 seconds to your time
  - Power ups also cost money.
    - Power ups provide a cheaper stopgap measure to help you clear the level faster.
    - However, it is often more cost-effective in the long run to pay for upgrades first.
- Tips
  - You only earn income if you beat a level, so if you are struggling to beat a level either activate multiple power ups on the way into the level, or replay previously beat levels to earn the income needed to upgrade your kitchen.
  - The last 3 or 4 levels in each half of the game (e.g. 22 to 25 & 47 to 50) are much harder than most other levels & often require both a fully upgraded kitchen, and all the power ups enabled to beat them.
  - If you purchase a power up for 100 coins you may need to refresh your web browser if the screen sticks.
  - On the first half of the game the most important thing to upgrade early is having multiple burger handling spots, then upgrade your ability to hold multiple drinks & fries, and the second range for cooking more burgers.
  - On the second half of the game the toaster count & how many plates you have for serving toast are the limiting factors to take care of first.

How to Play

Click on animals to boost their production & click on the trucks to speed them along. Purchase livestock and farm upgrades to earn as much as you can by the time the 5 minute timer is reached.

- Controls & indicators
  - Across the top of the screen there are indicators showing your current level number, your cash savings, and how much time remains.
  - The upper right has a settings button which allows you to control game sounds, switch to fullscreen mode, or exit the game.
  - Each animal type shows its level number, production percent, how many animals you have, how many animals of that type you can possess on the farm, and the cost to purchase more.
  - The farm shows how many eggs, milk, and yarn you have in inventory.
Game Play
- Basics
  - The goal of this game is to earn as much as you possibly can in 5 minutes.
  - Your mouse left click button literally does all the work. Left click to:
    - buy more animals
    - unlock new animal types
    - encorage animals to produce faster
    - upgrade the truck speed & carrying capacity
    - fill the truck faster
  - When the 5-minute time limit is up your score is shown & you can share it on social networks including Facebook, Twitter, and WhatsApp.
- Farm
  - Each of the animal types on your farm can be upgraded and the farmhouse itself can be upgraded.
    - Farmhouse upgrades cost in multiples of $3,000: $3,000, $6,000, $9,000, $12,000, and $15,000.
    - Each time you upgrade the trucks come faster and can carry more goods. The first upgrade makes the truck come faster, but subsequent upgrades also increase the carrying capacity of the truck so that it can carry 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 items.
    - The truck can carry any combination of chicken’s eggs, cow’s milk, and sheep’s wool.
- Animals
  - Chickens
    - Chickens cost $500 each & you can carry up to 15 chickens on your farm.
    - You start the game with 2 chickens.
    - Chickens produce eggs where an initial truckload is worth $2,000.
    - Unlike the other animals Chickens eventually perish, so you have to periodically replace them.
  - Cows
    - Cows cost $10,000 to unlock initially. When you unlock cows you start off with the first 2 cows.
    - You can hold a total of 5 cows.
    - Additional cows after the first 2 cost $8,000 each.
  - Sheep
    - Sheep cost $10,000 to unlock initially. When you unlock sheep you start off with the first 2 sheep.
    - You can hold a total of 8 sheep.
    - Additional sheep after the first 2 cost $5,000 each.
- Tips
  - Early in the game you only have chickens and you have few of them, so spend your initial budget buying chickens, then click on them until a truck appears.
  - When the truck appears repeatedly click on it to send it along its way faster to generate more income.
  - Be sure to upgrade the farm itself along with your animals so you can get more throughput capacity.
  - Try not to spend much on animal upgrades during the last minute of play as you do not get credit for your farm production rate or livestock at the end of the game, but only score based upon how much cash you have saved up.

- Level selection
  - Levels are unlocked sequentially. Only the first level is playable at the start of the game.
  - By finishing one level, you automatically unlock the next one.
  - You can replay any level you’ve already unlocked.
- Objectives
  - Build up your farm.
  - Develop new tools using the research button.
  - Reach each level’s stated goals within the time limit.
- Basic gameplay
  - Production
    - The game is divides into 3 areas:
      - The right side is the field. This is what you use to grow the raw materials (crops and livestock).
      - The center is the production floor. Here is where your food processing equipment is located.
        At the start of the game, the production floor is empty.
        With each item you research, you gain a new piece of technology.
        If you need that item in a level, it is already there.
        If you don’t, then you’ll need to pay for it to unlock it for the level.
      - The truck is where the food goes in to be shipped to town.
    - Every product takes time to grow or process.
    - Once it’s ready, select the product to retrieve it and place it on the refrigerator.
      - From the refrigerator, you can sell the products straight away by selecting the truck
      - You can also use them in any of the production items to process the ingredients.
        Each machine needs one or more ingredient to make an item.
        You can only queue a limited number of items per production item.
        Each production item comes with a list of recipes and the ingredients it needs to make them.
        Some recipes need processed ingredients.
      - The more processed or refined a product is, the higher its price on the market.
    - A typical single-ingredient production chain (for bread) process goes something like this:
      - Grow grain in the field. Select the grain once it’s done growing to harvest it.
      - Select the harvested wheat to grain it in the refrigerator.
      - Select the mixer to turn the grain into flour dough. Once done, select the dough to put it in the refrigerator.
      - Select the oven and choose the dough to make bread.
      - Collect the bread and place it in the refrigerator.
      - Sell the bread by placing it on the truck.
    - A multichain production (vegetable pie), meanwhile, goes something like this:
      - Grow grain in the field.
        Follow the production chain of bread for a little while to earn enough money to plant vegetables.
      - Grow vegetables in the field.
      - Select the grain and vegetables once it’s done growing to harvest it.
      - Select the harvested wheat and vegetables to place them in the refrigerator,
      - Process the ingredients:
        Select the mixer to grind the wheat into flour dough.
        Select the vegetable chopper to cut the vegetables into salad.
      - Once done, select the dough and the salad to put it in the refrigerator.
      - Select the oven and choose the dough and salad to make vegetable pie.
      - Collect the pie and place it in the refrigerator. Sell them.
    - You only need to make the food to meet the level’s quota. Selling them is secondary.
  - Gold and research
    - You earn gold as a bonus after every level.
      - Use the gold you earn after every level to unlock new items and production chains.
      - Use the gold wisely and don’t spend it on anything you don’t need yet.
        To find out what an upgrade does, left click or tap on its icon on the research screen.
        If you run out of gold to buy an upgrade you need, replay an earlier level to replay the upgrade.
    - You can access the research screen through the research button on either the level selection or game screens.
    - Select the research button to open the upgrades.
      - Choose any of the upgrades you can afford.
        Doing so will make the upgrade available on the game screen.
        Some upgrades in-game are automatically available. This is usually true for the upgrades a level needs.
        Other upgrades, including processing machines you don’t need in a level, have to be paid for before you can use them in-game.
      - Some levels need a specific upgrade for you to finish it.
- Scoring
  - You get 10 points for every item you store in the fridge.
  - You also get bonus 10 points for every second left on the clock.
- Tips
  - Do research before starting a new level.
  - Always start with grain.
    - With your starting $100, you can start earning twice from the production of grain as opposed to one of each from either meat or vegetables.
    - Process the grain in later levels to double your starting income.
  - Focus on finishing the level’s requirements.
    - Don’t be too preoccupied with unlocking things that you don’t need to finish the level.
    - Keep shipping items only to reach cash goals. You don’t need to ship the required food items to meet the level goal.
  - Replay any of the previous levels you’ve won if ever you need extra gold for research.

    - Pick up the tip the customer leaves behind.
  - Respond to each order as fast as you can.
    - The speech balloon that appears on the customers doubles as a meter for their patience.
    - The lower their patience, the lower their tip.
    - If a customer loses patience altogether, they will walk out.
  - Meet the level’s quota of customers to win.
  - Select the shelves to restock them when you run out of flowers.
- Scoring
  - Your gain a maximum of 500 points ($500) for every customer you serve. The faster your service, the higher the tip.
  - You gain a bonus of 30 points for every second left on the timer.
  - When you replay a level, you can change your level score. It will only change if you manage to beat your previous score.
- Tip
  - Don’t wait for the customer to stop the speaking animation, select them then immediately move to where you need to go. Often this will be another customer or a tip.
  - Carry 2 flowers in each hand to fulfill the orders of 2 customers at once.

    - The customer leaves behind a tip. Collect it to earn points.
  - Cooking burgers
    - Put a bun on a plate.
    - Drop the burger into the grill until it’s cooked.
      - You can only move the burger onto an empty plate with a bun.
      - If you leave the burger on the grill too long, it burns. You must throw it away.
    - Add in the other ingredients on the burger (lettuce, onions, sauces).
      - You can add the lettuce, onions, and sauces before or after you lay the burger – you do not have to follow the visual stack order.
  - Cooking other items
    - To make onion rings, drop the onions into the fryer.
      - Each handful of onions produces 3 servings of onion rings.
    - To make coffee, drag a bag of coffee beans to the coffee maker.
      - Each grind creates 3 coffees.
  - Other items appear ready to serve. Simply drag them to the customer.
- Tips
  - If you fall behind don’t be afraid to skip a customer or two and work on newly arriving customers.
  - You can do some aspects of the preparation process in chunks.
    - Have the coffee and onion rings ready in advance.
    - Set multiple buns on plates & then place cooked burgers on them.
- Scoring
  - Level score
    - You earn between 30 to 35 points for every customer you serve.
    - You also gain a bonus 30 points for every second left on the timer when you beat a level.
  - Total score
    - Your total score is the sum of all the points you’ve earned in all the levels.
    - You can see your total score on the bottom center of the level selection screen.
