Press the spacebar to toggle between closed and open shafts and the up button to jump. You must get all the jewels to get the best possible rating from the level. The miner only walks in one direction until he hits the end of the chamber. If he hits any obstacles, he stops in place unless you make him jump.

One other thing that adds difficulty is the presence of jewels in hard to reach places in the mine. It’s easy to miss one or two jewels by jumping at an inopportune time.
