Plot
The king and his knights have vanished, and an invasion force of gremlins have occupied the kingdom.
It falls on the gnome Kindle to find out what’s going on and take down the invasion force himself.
Basic
Attack the enemy gremlins running amok around the kingdom.
Free houses belonging to the besieged citizens.
Break open chests and collect treasure.
Bust through chambers hidden through boards and stone piles.
Collect donguri (acorns).
Watch your hitpoints; if you run out of hit points, it’s game over.
Interface
The number of donguri you collect can be viewed at the top center corner of the screen.
You can view your character’s stats the bottom left of your screen. This includes the following:
Your present score
Your hit points
An arrow on the upper right corner will guide you to where you need to go.
Check the number of houses you must free on the upper left corner.
You can see the remaining hit points of enemies and chests on the upper right corner.
Health and checkpoints
Health and lives
You have 6 hit points.
Lose them all, and it’s game over.
You can replenish your hit points by finding food items.
Often these are given as rewards when you free a house.
On the game over screen, you are given two options:
Return to the welcome screen
Start over from your last check point
Lampposts
Lampposts serve as your checkpoints.
Jump up to a lamppost to activate it.
If there are any enemies below it, they will perish.
Each time you die and start over, you begin on the last lamppost you activated.
Clearing a level
To clear a level, you must free all the houses of the gremlins occupying them.
Often, you need only to get to the fireplace and light it.
In especially crowded houses, you may need to fight your way toward the fireplace.
Once you activate the fireplace, all the gremlins turn to ash and the resident will feel grateful.
They will provide you with a food item to replenish your health.
Feel free to take coins and other collectibles as well.
When you freed all the houses, return to Wick to proceed to the next level.
Dealing with enemies.
Use your attack to defeat enemies.
You can attack them head on or use your barrel roll to deal with them.
Standard attack
Use this as your standard attack.
Each time you attack, you step forward in the direction you’re facing.
This can make it difficult to attack an enemy in a tight corner.
Consider turning before attacking again.
Barrel rolls
The barrel roll makes you invincible while hurting enemies that get in the way.
You can lose control quite easily, however.
Use the barrel roll to slaughter your enemies in a tight space.
Gremlins can be defeated by attacking them or by turning on a lamp light.
Lamp lights cause gremlins to disintegrate into ash.
The same principle applies for fireplaces inside homes.
The enemy gremlins come in several flavors.
It usually takes between 1-4 hits to take out some of the more common gremlins.
Boss gremlins take can several hits to defeat.
Some gremlins respawn from a barrel.
To stop the wave of minions from spawning, you must destroy the barrel.
Each time you try, you risk spawning another gremlin.
Fortunately, the barrels only spawn low-level gremlins that are easy to defeat.
It takes 10 hits to take down a barrel.
Note that you can attack your allies (villagers, Wick the owl) but you can’t kill them and they’ll be none too happy about it.
Collectibles
Around the world are several collectible items that you can pick up.
Donguri
Silver coins
Gold ingots
Silver ingots
Bronze ingots
Food items
The donguri often float around the overworld, ready to be collected.
Enemies drop collectibles when defeated.
You can also bust open treasure chests to gain collectibles.
Treasure chests have hit points. You must hit them a few times to collect the items inside.
Collectibles from chests and enemies disappear over time, so get to them fast.
Scoring
Collecting items and attacking enemies adds to your score.
