How to Play

As Mal or Uma, traverse through Auradon and the Isle of the Lost.

Starting the Game
- On the welcome screen:

  - You can clear your previous progress by selecting the trash button below the play button.

Game Play
- Character selection
  - The game’s campaign has 2 available paths:
    - Mal’s
    - Uma’s
  - The characters have their own storylines loosely inspired by the events of the second Descendants movie.
  - If you’re playing for the first time, play Mal’s campaign first as it contains the game’s tutorial.
  - To play Uma’s campaign, finish Mal’s tutorial level, then return to the welcome screen.
- Levels
  - Levels are unlocked in sequence.
    - You automatically start on the first level, which also acts as the game’s tutorial.
    - Finish one level to unlock the next.
  - You can replay any of the levels in this game.
    - Replaying levels is vital to unlocking all the game’s achievements.
  - Finish all 8 levels of the game as either Mal or Uma.
    - Mal starts her levels at Auradon Prep.
    - Uma starts hers in her pirate ship.
  - In addition to the standard levels, there are also bonus levels for you to finish.
- Basic rules
  - Moves
    - Automatic actions
      - You start running the moment the level begins.
      - You automatically climb up low obstacles.
    - Jumping
      - Jump onto platforms and poles.
      - Jump across chasms.
      - Jumping while climbing to get a boost.
      - Jump while hitting a wall to bounce backward.
        
        Being pushed back (either by walls or trampolines) is the only way you can ever move backwards in this game.
        
        This is essential when climbing up walls that are too tall for you to jump over.
        
        To ascend, jump toward a wall and make sure to land on a platform.
    - Attacking
      - You can attack enemies in any of 2 ways:
        
        Hit them.
        
        Stomp them.
      - Each character has a different attack:
        
        Mal fires a magic spell.
        
        Uma uses her pirate sword.
  - Collecting
    - Pick up items as either Mal or Uma.
      - Mal collects spray cans.
      - Uma collects seashells.
    - Whenever you reach Rush Mode, the items you collect increase in value.
  - Health
    - You start each level with a full health bar.
      - Each time you hit an enemy, your health is depleted.
      - Lose all your health and you fail the level.
    - When you fall, you instantly fail the level.
    - Replenish your health by picking up hearts.
  - Tricks
    - Jump onto poles and grab onto bars to perform tricks.
    - Performing tricks charges your rush meter.
    - When your rush meter is fully charged, you enter Rush Mode.
      - During Rush Mode, you’ll receive extra points from the shells and cans you collect.
      - You run faster in Rush Mode.
      - The mode only lasts for a few seconds. Make the most of it.
  - Time
    - Your browser records how fast you finish the game and saves your best times.
    - Your best times must be below the in-game record time.
- Bonus levels
  - These appear as doors during Rush Mode.
  - Each bonus level is much shorter than bonus levels.
- Level Features
  - Platforms
    - Some platforms are small enough that you can climb onto them.
    - Most are a bit higher up. You need to jump onto them.
    - Platforms are the key to climbing up higher.
      - Use platforms as steps to reach cans and shells in surfaces that are higher up.
      - Make sure to land on them each time you get pushed back by a wall.
  - Pits
    - Pits are a hazard.
    - Jump over them to get across without dying.
    - If you fall on them, you die regardless of how full your health bar is.
  - Poles and bars
    - Poles and bars fill up your rush meter.
    - You hop along poles like you would with platforms.
    - You jump onto bars and twirl around them.
  - Trampoline buttons
    - Trampoline buttons appear in later levels.
    - Jumping off a trampoline button allows you to bounce toward a platform from behind you.
    - These tend to be more common in bonus levels.
  - Check Points
    - Dude the dog, Auradon Prep’s mascot, serves as the check point.
    - Each time you pass by Dude, you gain a spot to respawn each time you fail.
- Achievements
  - Completing various actions will merit achievements.
  - There are 7 achievements in the game:
    - Ways to be Wicked: Collect 1,000 spray cans.
    - Poor Unfortunate Souls: Collect 1,00 seashells.
    - Two Sides of the Story: Finish both story campaigns.
    - Let’s Set it Off: Get to Rush Mode in every level.
    - Rotten to the Core:
    - Necessary Evil: Finish all bonus levels.
  - Select the trophy button on the bottom center of the welcome screen to view the achievements you’ve earned so far.

  - On the right side is the table of contents. Use this to go to the individual sections of the guide book.
- Quiz
  - The quiz is a multiple choice trivia game.
    - On the left side of the screen is a question and 4 possible answers.
    - Select the best answer from the 4.
  - The questions draw heavily from the films in Disney’s animated canon.
  - Answer all 10 of the trivia questions correctly and you receive an A.
- Museum
  - The Museum serves as the game’s inventory of items.
    - On the left page is a brief description of the item.
    - On the right is the image of the item.
  - Some items are marked as stolen.
    - As you play the game, you can recover some of these items.
    - Their images are restored as you find them.
- Passport
  - The passport game lets you create an ID card that marks you as a resident of either magical realm. This passport is based on either Auradon or the Isle of the Lost.
    - Choose from either realm for a theme.
    - Upload a picture of yourself.
    - After you’ve uploaded a picture, you can edit it.
      - Use the rotate button on the top left corner to flip your picture.
      - Use the slider to the right to zoom in or zoom out of your picture and make it fit the frame better.
      - Use the X button to go back and upload a new picture.
      - Use the check button to proceed with the next part of the game.
    - Type your name on the space provided.
  - Once you’re done making your card, you can print out your passport.
  - Over time you will also collect a number of stamps based on the levels you’ve cleared.

    - Distance ran

Game Play
- Available characters:
  - Mal (available by default)
  - Jay (unlocked at Level 4)
  - Evie (unlocked at Level 7)
  - Carlos (unlocked at Level 10)
- Basic rules
  - Run for as long as you can.
  - Jump over chasms and onto platforms.
    - To cross greater distances, you must jump and flip at the same time.
    - You must stop a flip with your feet down.
    - Jumping a large distance without flipping will cause you to slide for a brief moment.
  - Slide under narrow gaps.
    - If you don’t slide, you will hit the wall and miss the space.
    - You can also slide to destroy obstacles.
  - Avoid falling or colliding with anything.
- Tricks
  - Tricks are various actions done while traversing the city:
    - Flipping while jumping
    - Smashing obstacles
    - Grinding through wires
  - They provide a small point bonus each time you do them.
  - Upgrades will increase the score value of each action.
- Levels
  - Levels are unlocked sequentially.
  - To unlock a level, you must finish a set of listed challenges.
  - Finish more levels to unlock new runners.
- Coins and upgrades
  - Coins
    - Pick up coins as you run; they contribute to your score
    - Use the coins you collected to buy upgrades.
    - Pick up the coin magnet to collect all nearby coins without approaching them for a brief period.
  - Upgrades
    - Upgrades provide a set of benefits for your game.
      - Coin magnet upgrades increase the duration of the magnet’s effects
      - Flip upgrades let you flip faster.
      - Grind speed updates give you a bigger bonus when grinding.
      - Smash multiplier upgrades increase the points you receive when smashing several items at once.
    - Each upgrade costs coins.
    - You can have up to 4 upgrades at once.
- Scoring
  - The following items influence your score:
    - The distance you ran (times 100)
    - The coins you collects (times 10)
